Consumer and commercial data conditions

Free, Pro and Max

Anthropic’s consumer policy lets users choose whether data may be used for model improvement. Review the Privacy Center for the active training preference, retention, deletion and incognito-chat conditions.

Team and Enterprise

Anthropic says inputs and outputs from commercial products such as Claude for Work and the API are not used for model training by default. Explicit feedback or other permission can create an exception.

Feedback note: When a commercial user explicitly submits thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback, the related conversation can be retained and used under the feedback terms. Administrators should review the organization feedback setting.

Who Claude fits—and when to compare alternatives

Good fit

  • Writing from long documents or multiple files
  • Project-specific knowledge collections
  • Five or more people connecting Drive, Slack or Microsoft 365
  • Mixed Standard and Premium seats for different usage needs

Compare alternatives

  • A two-to-four-person team needs organization administration
  • Direct Google Workspace integration is the main requirement
  • Image generation is a primary requirement
  • The project needs only API access, not a chat subscription

Pre-purchase checklist

  1. Check seat count: Team starts at five; compare other managed plans for two to four users.
  2. Estimate usage: Match Pro, Max, Team Standard or Premium to actual frequency.
  3. Design connector scope: Limit Drive, Slack and Microsoft 365 search permissions.
  4. Review feedback controls: Decide whether members may send conversation feedback to Anthropic.
  5. Separate API governance: Manage Anthropic API spend and credentials separately.
